AS A MUSICIAN, NAVIGATING SOCIAL MEDIA CAN BE A DAUNTING TASK AT TIMES.
We are constantly bombarded with images of success and perfection, which can leave us feeling like we’re not enough.
But striving for these ideals is futile; no one achieves perfection — it’s a goal that will always remain just out of reach.
However, this doesn’t mean you should give up on your ambitions. You know what to do: identify your goals, divide them into small chunks, and start baby-stepping!
Remember that what you are (Musician, Artist, Other) does not define you as a whole person, and this is can be very difficult to translate on a social media page.
HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO HELP YOU NAVIGATE SOCIAL MEDIA WITH EASE AND KEEP YOUR MENTAL HEALTH INTACT:
- Manage the time you spend on social media. Set a limit for yourself so that you don’t get overwhelmed by what’s out there.
- Remember that you don’t need to post perfect content. It’s ok to be yourself and to show your unfiltered self.
- Take breaks from social media when needed. Step away from your phone or computer and engage in activities that make you feel energized and positive.
- Follow positive people and accounts on social media. Surround yourself with people and content that make you feel good and motivated.
- Don’t compare yourself to others. Everyone is on their own journey, so focus on your own progress and stay away from comparing yourself to others.
BE MINDFUL OF YOUR HEALTH, BODY, MIND, AND SPIRIT!
HERE IS WHAT NOT TO DO!
- Don’t post anything you wouldn’t say in person. Things can be misconstrued or taken out of context easily in writing, so think twice before you post anything.
- Don’t post too much personal information. Protect yourself! Keep your personal info away from prying eyes by not posting any address, number, or other sensitive stuff.
- Don’t get into online arguments or flame wars. This can be stressful and damaging to your emotional well-being and is basically a waste of your time.
- Don’t post when you’re emotional. Take a few minutes to cool off before posting anything that could be misinterpreted or taken the wrong way.
- Don’t forget to take a break. Social media can be addictive and it’s important to take breaks to give yourself time to unplug and relax.
As a musician, it’s important to remember that social media is just one part of your creative journey.
Focus on yourself and make sure that you’re healthy and happy before worrying about your social media presence.
Utilize social media platforms to connect with fans, promote your music, and collaborate with other artists.
When dealing with criticism and negativity online, remember to keep a level head and know that it’s a normal part of the process.
REMEMBER, THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF THIS JOURNEY IS YOU AND YOUR MUSIC.
